Land Conservation

The Center for Native Health, EBCI Natural Resources and the Rights & Resources Initiative have partnered to develop culturally based land management practices and protocols in consultation with other leading American Indian Tribal Nations across the U.S. The Center for Native Health understands the deep and interconnected relationship between land and community health.

Elders & Clinicians Gatherings

Meetings in which clinicians listen to and learn from the insights, experience and concerns of elders.

 

Rooted in the Mountains

A collaboration between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Center for Native Health and WCU’s College of Health and Human Sciences Rooted in the Mountains is an interdisciplinary forum where ethnography, literature, art, music and native and western science are center stage. Topics range from native heart disease and diabetes prevention, climate change and nature’s resilience, the cultural significance of water, food sovereignty issues and healthy lifestyles.

Appalachian Trail Conservancy

The Center for Native Health is helping structure dialogue with the ATC around land acknowledgement as they seek to foster relationships with indigenous communities.
