Planning begins for Indigenous Youth Conservation Program
On November 5th, The Center for Native Health along with community partners The Wilderness Society, Cherokee Central Schools, and EBCI Natural Resources Department met at Cherokee Central Schools to begin planning activities to develop an Indigenous Youth Conservation Program on the Qualla Boundary. This work is generously supported by First Nations Development Institute under the Stewarding Native Lands Program, which “provides financial and technical assistance to support Native ecological stewardship and improve Native control of and access to ancestral lands and resources to ensure the sustainable, economic, spiritual and cultural well-being of Native communities”.
We are seeking Cherokee youth 12-22 who are interested in learning about the ancestral landscape and would like to join this movement. Please contact Bonnie Claxton, Program Officer via the contact form on the Land & Wellness page.
